Doris Lillian (Kuhn) Groene

Mesquite, Nevada- Doris Lillian Groene, 77, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 in Mesquite, NV. She was born November 28, 1939 in Great Neck, New York to Eugene and Isabelle Kuhn. She married the love of her life, Frank "Mickey" Groene on May 20, 1998 in Las Vegas, NV.

Doris was a 25 year member of the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company serving as an EMT, past president, sergeant of the medical unit and was a responder to the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11.

Doris was partners in Doray Enterprises in Great Neck for over 20 years, then went to work for the Town of North Hempstead where she retired after 22 years of service as a data entry clerk.

Doris with her husband Mickey purchased a home in Mesquite in 2005 and became permanent residents in 2011.

While living in Mesquite, Doris was a familiar and very friendly face around the Eureka. She enjoyed playing bunko with "The Ladies of The Crossing", and was an active member of the Desert Dames, the Elks Club, as well as a member of La Santisima Trinidad Church in Mesquite (Scenic).

Doris was preceded in death by her daughter Maureen Akridge and grandson Ryan Akridge. She is survived by her spouse Frank "Mickey" of Mesquite; sons Thomas McDonough, Raymond Plakstis (Donna), step-daughters Jeannie Groene, Ann White (Nicky) all of Long Island, New York; grandchildren Thomas Jr., Kelly, Tyler, Erin, Daniel, Colleen, Ryan P., Nicholas, Theresa, Thomas; and great grandchildren Addilynn, Jaelyn, Gavin, Ashlyn, and Kasey.

There will be Visitation Services at the Virgin Valley Mortuary on June 27, 2017 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., with Rosary Services beginning at 8:00 p.m. Funeral services has been set for Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 9:45 am, at the St. Aloysius RC Church, 592 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck, New York 11023.
