Alexander Garcia Rodriguez

Alexander Garcia Rodriguez, age 99, died Saturday, July 6, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born March 1, 1920 in Newcastle, Texas to Ramon Cuellar and Ramona Garcia Rodriguez. He married Marcia Marie Orgo. They had seven children and were later divorced. He married Marian Acuna. She preceded him in death.

Alex grew up in Texas. He earned a scholarship at Rice University and attended there before entering the US Army Air Corps where he served during WWII. He enjoyed a career in the Air Force eventually becoming a Lieutenant Colonel. After earning his Master’s Degree in Engineering from Stanford University, he worked in the Atomic Testing Program. After he retired in 1965, he went to work for Wolf Research under contract with NASA where he worked with the celestial navigation in the Apollo Program. He later retired to Las Vegas, then started working again this time for EG & G as their senior scientist. He also partnered with his son in the Las Vegas International Speedway.

Survivors include five daughters and two sons: Anita (Steve) Canfield; Renee (Steve) McCormick; Nanette (Tony) Grant; Alex; Benjamin (Teri); Diane Mashburn; Heather (David) Rodriguez all of Las Vegas, NV; long lost son, Jeremy (Pearl) Brassington of the UK and step son Gary (Diane) Arvizo; 36 grandchildren; 79 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; sister, Ester Schwab of Katy, TX and brother, Abraham of Austin, TX.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 22, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, South Stake Center, 6601 W. Twain, Las Vegas, NV. Visitation will be from 9 - 9:45 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow at 1:20 p.m. in the Southern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, NV.
