My grandmother Opal Tharp died when I was eleven years old. Her baby brother was none other than Mel Brooks. I have taken my family to California for years and one of my kids favorite stops on the way was Uncle Mel's house. My children got to know my grandmother through Uncle Mel. Always smiling, telling jokes, and making everyone laugh. We loved driving out for his 100 birthday. Our last visit was Christmas Eve 2016. We had a great visit with Mel and Laura. We will miss him terribly. Love and prayers to all.

Mel was most likely the most popular bingo player in Mesquite EVER and can never be replaced! EVERYONE knows and loves Mel and he will be greatly missed! Seeing Mel was the highlight of every trip to Mesquite since moving away, it will never be the same without him! Great big fat hugs always from Lehi!

My granddad was the kindest man. He had so many stories and jokes to tell anyone who would listen. His biggest passion was bingo. Getting out, socializing and playing bingo was what got him to 101 years old. I will never forget him, and I will miss him terribly. Godspeed Granddad. Keep 'em laughing. I love you.
