Michael J. Evans

October 21, 1932 ~ August 24, 2019 (age 86)

Michael Joseph Evans, age 86, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019 in his hometown of Mesquite, NV. He was born in Toronto, Canada to parents Thomas Edwin and Edna Mary Rosar Evans. After moving to Southern California, he met and married Joan Gladys Barnes. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2013.

Michael spent his early years growing up in Toronto. When he was a teenager, his family moved to Downey, CA, where he graduated from high school. After graduation, he attended college, and where he began working as a test engineer for a nuclear circulator at Pacific Pumps. In 1960, he moved his family to Whittier, CA, where he and Joanie raised their 6 children for the next 16 years. His career, working as an engineer in the power-generating industry, led to a few inventions of which one was even patented. His career enabled him to travel around the world marketing products and conducting business.

Perhaps Mike’s biggest adventure of all was moving Joanie and their three youngest children from their Whittier home to Hawaii. While living in Oahu, he started up his own business while enjoying island days in the sun for 8 years. The next career opportunity drew them to Chicago, IL, where they lived for nine years and helped raise two grandsons. Along with Joanie and daughter Patti, Mike retired to the desert community of Mesquite, NV, where he lived his final 23 years.

Michael was a talented artist. He enjoyed oil painting and making stained glass creations, including some for Catholic churches. For many years, his passion was photography. While a member of a camera club, he was recognized for several award-winning photographs, some of which appeared in publications and national magazines.

His survivors include three sons and three daughters: Robert (Nancy) of Diamond Bar, CA; Cheryl (Larry) Clapp of Corona, CA; Michael of Vista, CA; Patricia of Mesquite, NV; Thomas (Debbie) of San Clemente, CA; Michelle of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two sisters.
