Velma Katheryn (DeRoos) Jewett

Velma Katheryn Jewett, 95, passed away in her home on October 5, 2017 in Mesquite, NV. Velma was born on October 2, 1922 in Avon, SD to Tony DeRoos and Edith Jones. She married Orlie Jewett on April 23, 1943 in Isabelle, SD. Orlie Jewett passed away on June 9, 1978.

Velma was raised in Springfield, SD where she graduated High School, and after a few years at college, became a school teacher in Springfield, SD. By the year 2001, she moved to Las Vegas, NV to be nearer to her children, and in 2012 moved to the quiet town of Mesquite, NV. Velma loved to dance. She was also an excellent cook, and worked as a dietician for many years in Belle Fourche, SD at John Burn’s Memorial Hospital.

Velma is survived by her four children; Orlin T. Jewett (Nancy) of Tucson, AZ, Gary Jewett of Mesquite, NV, Sandra Hicks of Mesquite, NV, and Ellen Jewett of Las Vegas, NV, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Orlie W. Jewett, her daughter Sharon R. Jewett, her parents, Tony and Edith DeRoos, and her brother James DeRoos. 

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche, SD. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on their “Guest Book” at www.virginvalleymortuary.com.
