B.R. Behmer

Bernie Robert "B.R." Behmer, age 91, died Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Overton, Nevada. He was born July 20, 1928 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Floyd John and Edna McPherson Behmer. On July 13, 1946 he married Rosemary Shurtliff in Kingman, Arizona. On June 20, 1959 they were sealed in the St. George LDS Temple.

B.R. grew up in Las Vegas. He had a difficult childhood and learned to fend for himself at a very young age. He worked as a miner and later began to hone his trades. He became skilled as a craftsman in steelwork, carpentry, concrete and supervising projects. He moved his family to Moapa Valley in 1953 where he was instrumental with others in bringing ambulance service to the valley. He enjoyed building movie sets in the Valley of Fire, rubbing shoulders with some of Hollywood’s elite. He enjoyed missionary work throughout his life, especially while serving the Navajo and Apache Nations while on his mission with his wife in Arizona. He loved hunting, fishing and camping, especially when his entire family would join him.

Survivors include one son and two daughters: Robert C. (Patty) of Cedar City, UT; Marilyn (Melbourne) Perkins of Overton, NV; Darla Bell of Las Vegas, NV; two adopted sons: Todd of Costa Mesa, CA; Richard of Anchorage, AK; 24 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary on September 26, 2010 and his son, Floyd.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Overton Chapel, Overton, Nevada. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in Overton next to his sweetheart.
