Charles "Corky" Joseph Smith

Charles Joseph “Corky” Smith, age 78, died Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at his home in Mesquite, Nevada.  He was born April 4, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles Joseph and Carolyn Martha Smicklas Smith.  On November 21, 2008 he married Marie Berniece Silva Thomas in Bunkerville, Nevada.  
Corky lived most of his life in Chicago.  He was proud to serve as a Chicago police officer for 30 years.  He was a huge Chicago White Sox fan and loved attending games.  He loved to fish and he enjoyed working on his computer.  He retired and moved to the warm weather of Las Vegas in 1998 and finally settled in Mesquite in 2005.  He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather.  
Survivors include his wife Marie; two sons and two daughters: Craig (Michelle) of AR; Kim (Patrick) Robbins of AR; Roxanne (Michael) Siemeck of IL; Michael (Alina) of Las Vegas;  three step daughters: Gina (Kevin) Bradley; Julie Thomas both of CA; Jiminia Thomas of WA; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister and two brothers: Mary Ellen (Joe) Sands, Steven (Patricia) Sasenick and Joseph (Betty) Sasenick.  He was preceded in death by two sons, Nicholas  and Matthew.  
A private memorial service is planned at a later date in Chicago as Charles wished to be laid to rest near his sons.  The service will be limited in size due to the pandemic.  In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation be made to the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police.  Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.virginvalleymortuary.com
