Dolores Gierut Obituary

Dolores Mary Gierut, 93, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at the Oasis Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lake Worth, Florida.  She was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 17, 1928, the daughter of Nick and Mary Jacubs.  She first married Stephen Karwoski, and the couple had four children, Steve, Karen, Sharon and Ronald.  She later married Charles Gierut.

Dolores was a homemaker while raising her children, and later worked as a Nurses Aid and then a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the Little Company of Mary hospital in Evergreen Park, IL and Christ hospital in Oak Lawn, IL.  Upon retirement, she and her husband Chuck moved to Las Vegas and then Mesquite, NV.  Upon the passing of her husband, Dolores relocated to Florida and was living with her son Ronald and Daughter-in-law Carrie.

Dolores was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  She loved to spend time with her family and never missed a birthday or holiday remembrance.  Dolores enjoyed playing slot machines and bingo with family and friends.  She also loved visiting the National Parks and beautiful sites of the southwest US.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Karen; her husbands, Stephen Karwoski and Charles Gierut; and her great granddaughter, Celeste Brown.

Surviving are her sister, Betty Sobczak; her Aunt, Irene Jankis; her children, Steve Karwoski, Sharon Hundley, and Ronald Karwoski; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Dolores will be laid to rest next to her husband Charles Gierut in Mesquite, NV on Friday, January 7th, 2022.  There will be a brief memorial service at the Virgin Valley Mortuary in
Mesquite, NV.
