Gene Raymond Golding

April 24, 1936 ~ December 19, 2021 (age 85)


Gene Raymond Golding, age 85, quietly passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021 in Mesquite, Nevada.  He was born April 24, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to William Joseph Golding and Mary Helen Churchside.  On June 29, 1968 he married Dolores Marie Scholl in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gene moved to the small town of Romoland, California when he was six to live with his grandparents and it was from them he developed a strong sense of family.  After high school he joined the US Navy and became an Airman.  After his service he moved to Alto Loma, California, he worked as a plumber and custodian for a local Catholic church.  He desired a quiet place to live during retirement and ended up in Mesquite, Nevada in 2019.  Gene spent his retirement days assembling and collecting model airplanes and train sets.  He even had the opportunity to join a country band and loved every minute of it as the drummer.

Gene was a devoted husband and his 10 children still say he was the most stable and reliable man they ever knew.
Gene is survived by nine of his children; Richard, Joy, Gary, Ceige, Steven, Bernice, Patrick, Kathy and Maureen; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife and their oldest son James.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in his honor on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the La Virgen de Guadalupe Catholic Church, Mesquite, Nevada.  Visitation will be from 9 - 10 a.m. prior to services at the Virgin Valley Mortuary chapel.  Interment will be Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California next to his wife, Dolores on January 12,2022 at 10:30 a.m..  Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at
