Robert Lavar Tanner

Robert Lavar Tanner died on January 11, 2021 in St. George, UT. Robert was born on September 1, 1938 in Payson, UT. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Lavar and Reeda Tanner; brothers, Steve Tanner; and his son, Jim Tanner. When Robert was thirteen, the family moved to Overton, NV. After graduating from Moapa Valley High School, he went to work for the Railroad. He married Linda Pace and they were blessed with three sons: Bill (Hatty) Tanner of Mesquite,NV,  Jim (Judy) Tanner, deceased, and Darin (Keena) Tanner of St. George, UT. They were later divorced.

In November 1997, he married Bette Parsons Tanner and became the beloved stepfather to Joy (Ralph) Smith of Salina, UT, Richard (Nathalie) Stoddard of Flagstaff, AZ, Kristine (Dave) LaPlante of Madera, CA, Kayleen (Rob) Schulz of Logandale, NV, Douglas Stoddard of Panguitch, UT, Clinton (Aggie) Stoddard of Tucson, AZ, Russell (Shelley) Stoddard of Idaho Falls, ID, and Alicia Jensen of Sandy, UT. He is grandfather to thirty-three, and great-grandfather to twenty-four.

Robert loved to play his accordion, guitar, and harmonica for many occasions. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He and Bette were sealed in the Las Vegas, NV Temple and look forward to being together forever. Robert retired after working for Simplot for forty-two years. He and Bette lived in Panguitch, UT for fifteen wonderful years where he served as first counselor to the Panguitch Nursing Home branch for seven years. 

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021, 6-8 pm at the Moapa Valley Mortuary in Logandale, NV. A family Graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021, 11:00 am at the Pioneer Hill Cemetery of Overton, NV. Robert is greatly loved and will most certainly be terribly missed.
