Ron Leavitt

     Ronnie “Ron” Ralph Leavitt, age 85, died Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at his home in Overton, Nevada.  He was born December 7, 1937 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Rodney Vaughn and Edna Velora Perkins Leavitt.  On June 27, 1959 he married Joyce Darleen Woolsey in Overton.  On March 25, 1965 they were sealed in the St. George LDS Temple.  
    Ron lived most of his life in Overton where he graduated from MVHS in 1956.  He enjoyed playing basketball, football and was a member of the 1956 State Basketball Champion Team.  
    He attended a mechanics trade school in Southern California, earning his degree.  He worked for Simplot Silica for many years and later in road construction as a heavy equipment mechanic.  He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, working on their trucks and other projects.  He always had a family or friend project in the back yard. 
    He was a devoted family man, he rarely missed his family’s sporting and extracurricular events.  He loved to poke around the Southern Nevada desert, going to little known spots to camp or picnic with his family.  He enjoyed hunting in Eagle Valley and fishing in Lake Mead.  He served as a Scout leader for years as his sons progressed through the scouting program.  
    He was loved by his family as the Patriarch of his family.  He was always interested in his children and grandchildren’s lives and activities  
    Survivors include his wife of over 64 years, Joyce; four sons and one daughter: Rodney (Camille) of Logandale; Penn (Nancy) of Cedar City, UT; Hatty (Bill) Tanner of Mesquite, NV; Troy (Sally) of St. George, UT; Mike (Cindy) of Logandale; twenty grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister: Terry (Mary) Leavitt of Cedar City, UT; Dianne (Gary) LaNasa of Overton and Nick (Launa) Leavitt of Logandale.  
    Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Overton Chapel, 226 W. Thomas Street, Overton, NV.  Visitation will be Tuesday, August 8, 2023 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary and again from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel.  Interment will follow in the Pioneer Hill Cemetery.  Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com
