Obituary

Wilfred Albert “Sonny” Carrier, of Mesquite, Nevada, 82, passed away on August 24, 2021. He was born to Wilfred and Alberta Carrier on November 13, 1938 in Dover, New Hampshire.

Sonny grew up in Berwick, Maine, adjacent to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He loved going to the beach and was a devoted son and brother. Always a very spiritual person, Sonny entered the seminary and studied to become a priest for two years, from 1958-1959. He maintained a fierce devotion to Catholicism throughout his life, befriending many priests and serving as a Eucharist minister in two parishes. In 1960, he enlisted in the Air Force and served as a seismologist in Boulder, Wyoming.  He met his wife Frances while stationed there; she was the love of his life and he was devoted to her.

After his honorable discharge from the service, Sonny held several occupations over the years, always focused on providing for his family.  Sonny’s last job was with the County of Sweetwater, Wyoming, as Computer Systems Director.  He and Frances also owned a real estate brokerage, Carrier Realty, in Rock Springs for several years.

In 2012, Sonny and Frances retired to Mesquite, Nevada. After Frances passed in 2013, Sonny turned to his parish home, Our Lady of Guadalupe, for solace and comfort. He was well-known as a man of integrity, humility, and compassion for others.

Sonny is survived by his three children, Roberta Townsend of Mesquite, NV, Robert Carrier of Lolo, MT, and John Carrier, and his wife Kathy, of Green Bay, WI; his sister, Elaine Rea of Naperville, IL, his niece Donna and nephew David; grandchildren Matthew Keller, Lara Carrier, Paul Carrier, Gordon Carrier, Keyth Lloyd, Danielle Freeman, Bernadette Alexander, and several great grandchildren.
